„On the first day of the project, after presenting our good practices and introducing our organizations, an intercultural night took place. During this event, we had the opportunity to learn more about typical dishes and customs from the countries participating in the project.
The spotlight was first on Turkey, showcasing delicious Turkish coffee and accompanying treats. Each participant received a small gift in the form of pins (for clothes, accessories, etc.). Next in line was Jordan, welcoming us with Arabic coffee. We sampled various types of nuts and sweets. As part of the gift, the ladies received a smoothing face mask and mini magnets, while the gentlemen received magnets and ribbons.
Moving on to Poland, a variety of candies, chocolate bars, kabanos sausages, and festive items were prepared due to the approaching holiday season. These included strudel, almonds, and mulled wine-flavored tea. Italy followed, allowing us to taste the colorful ‘frutta di Martorana’ – typical dessert prepared in Sicily for the solemn feast for the Day of the Dead on November 2nd, to commemorate lost loved ones on the island. The legend says that nuns at Martorana convent invented la frutta martorana to impress a visiting king.
Next, we traveled to North Macedonia and Slovenia, where we tried various candies, chocolates, and crisps. Our culinary journey concluded in Portugal, where we enjoyed delicious port wine.
In the evening, acknowledging the project’s location in Barcelona, we had a chance to try traditional Spanish cuisine. The dinner featured iconic Spanish dishes, including omelettes, chorizo and empanadas filled with tuna or chicken.
The intercultural night not only provided us with a gastronomic experience but also fostered cultural exchange and strengthened the bonds between us. It was a unique opportunity to explore the diverse flavors and traditions of each country involved in the project. The exchange of small gifts added a personal touch to the event, creating lasting memories and connections among us.”
